PROF EZE SIGNS MOU WITH MAEJO UNIVERSITY OF THAILAND

 PROF EZE SIGNS MOU WITH MAEJO UNIVERSITY OF THAILAND ON COLLABORATIONS AND EXCHANGE 

The visit of Thai investors  and University collaborators to Imo State was yesterday consummated at Imo Government House with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo, represented by its Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Christopher Eze and Maejo University of Thailand, represented by its President, Asso. Prof. Weerapon Thongma.

The signing of the MoU which was facilitated by the Governor of Imo State and Visitor to the University, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma, is aimed at connecting the institution to limitless opportunities in the globe so that it can realize its mandate.

The State Chief Executive had while receiving the investors harped on the need to build an economically viable Imo State which offers huge potentials to the wider world.  

While coordinating the signing of the MoU yesterday, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof. Placid Njoku, expressed optimism that the document would deepen the much needed linkage between the two Universities in order to enhance profitable collaborations in technology, scholarship and agricultural value chain development, among others. 

By signing this MOU, UAES has become a member of  Association of SouthEast Asian Nations(ASEAN ) Agricultural Universities Network .

ASEAN, is an Association of Southeast Asian Nations,  established by the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand in 1967 to accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development and to promote peace and security in Southeast Asia.


 In a visit to University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo, penultimate week, the Thai investors  and academic collaborators who came in company of select members of the Imo State Executive Council were conducted round the University as they toured the Poultry, Fishery and Cassava Processing Unit of the University, all of which require immediate resuscitation. The team which was led by an Imo son, Dr. Lloyd Nwafor, equally had a rare view of the Otammiri River which has a bank at the Southeastern fringes of the institution.

It will be recalled that the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo currently partners with the European Union on digital solutions for rural farmers in the face of the global climate change. It is also collaborating with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA)  and National Root Crops Research Institute ( NRCRI) on root crops value chain.
